How to create differential with lock that fits 5×7 frame?
With standard LEGO pieces it is quite impossible. Standard differential is 3 stud wide and It cannot be blocked in any sensible way. It was only in 2020 that Lego released a differential that can be locked, but the entire mechanism takes up a lot of space. The first set with a factory differential lock was created in 2021. To date, Lego has not created any compact differential with a lock.
And now the time has come for us…
The idea was simple. Make a Lego compatible differential that can be locked and together with the locking mechanism will fit in a standard 5×7 frame. Thanks to this, such a differential could be fitted to existing sets without major modifications.
First prototype
For now, we have created first prototype. Overall design is great, but there are some things to improve.
And here is a real working test version
